11th Annual Material Culture Symposium for Emerging Scholars
The 11th Annual Material Culture Symposium will feature eleven emerging scholars, who will present on a diverse set of material culture topics linked by the theme of "Embodied Objects: Material Culture Studies in Three Dimensions." The symposium, co-sponsored by the Center for Material Culture Studies at the University of Delaware and the Winterthur Museum, investigates the potential of object-based research to expand and even reinvent our understanding of culture and history. This year’s keynote speaker is Jennifer Jane Marshall, Assistant Professor of Art History at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.
This year’s presenters represent the fields of American studies, political science, visual and cultural studies, history, art history, and the histories of decorative arts, material culture and design. Commentary will be given by Cynthia Falk, Associate Professor of Material Culture at the Cooperstown Graduate Program; Martin Brückner, Associate Professor of English and Material Culture Studies at the University of Delaware; and Jennifer van Horn, Adjunct Professor of Art History at George Mason University.
The symposium is free and open to the public, but advance registration is encouraged. For the full program, abstracts of the papers to be presented, and registration instructions, please visit http://www.udel.edu/materialculture/emerging_scholars.html.
