About this Event
"Facing the Mask: Some Anthropological Reflections"
Emma Tarlo
Emeritus Professor of Anthropology
Goldsmiths, University of London
Over a period of one year, a small piece of cloth has become a ubiquitous feature of our daily lives, challenging our visual and communicative norms, mediating our interactions with others, and reversing the tenets of social behaviour. Covering the face, which has been critiqued and regulated in American and European contexts in years past, has now become a moral obligation. In this public presentation and discussion, Dr. Emma Tarlo will introduce some the personal and political issues that revolve around the face mask and explore our multifaceted relationships with it.
