Tomas Gonzalez-Fernandez is an Assistant Professor at Lehigh University's Bioengineering Department. He earned his PhD in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering from Trinity College Dublin (Ireland) in 2018, focusing on non-viral gene therapy and 3D bioprinting for tissue fabrication. After completing his Ph.D., he joined UC Davis Leach lab, researching biomaterial functionalization for bone repair and receiving an American Heart Association Postdoctoral Fellowship. During his career, he has been honored with prestigious awards and fellowships, such as the Rising Star in Engineering and Health by the University of Columbia, and he was selected to attend the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting in 2023. Tomas also promotes DEI in science and engineering through his position at different professional societies such as BMES and TERMIS and the Pride Center at Lehigh University
