  • Seminar: “A Microfluidic Silicon Membrane Oxygenator for an Artificial Placenta.”
  •
  • Dr. David Blauvelt is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Thomas Jefferson University and an Attending Physician in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Nemours Children’s Hospital. He also holds an affiliate faculty appointment in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Delaware.

Dr. Blauvelt directs the Biomedical Research, Innovation, and Translation in Extracorporeal Life Support (BRITE) Lab at Nemours. His research applies bioengineering principles to improve the care of critically ill children, with a particular focus on extracorporeal life support (ECLS). He is especially recognized for his innovative work developing a microfluidic silicon membrane oxygenator for use as an artificial placenta, aiming to support survival and lung development in extremely preterm infants.

Dr. Blauvelt earned his MD through the prestigious Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology (HST) program, completed his pediatrics residency at Boston Children’s Hospital, and his pediatric critical care fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco.
