DESCRIPTION:Image-based modeling of skeletal muscle: from lab to clinic to
 market\n\n \n\nPresented by: \n\nSilvia Salinas Blemker\n\nUniversity of V
irginia\n\n \n\nSkeletal muscles are extraordinarily adapted motors that e
nable us to perform many important functions\, from walking to sight to sp
eech. Thus\, muscle dysfunction arising from muscle injury\, atrophy\, deg
eneration\, fatty infiltration\, and fibrosis present major health care pr
oblems. The goal of the Multi-Scale Muscle Mechanophysiology (“M3”) La
b’s research is to develop imaging and computational modeling techniques
that allow us to quantify muscle structure and assess functional impairme
nts for various applications. We aim to apply these methods to answering q
uestions related to the role of complex muscle biology and mechanics in va
 rious contexts\, including muscular dystrophy\, muscle injury\, athletic p
erformance\, and muscle regeneration. In this presentation\, I will descr
ibe these approaches and present a range of contexts that span from the la
b to clinic to the market.
