Title:

Mathematical Imaging and Visual Computing: principles and applications

Speaker:

Sokratis Makrogiannis, PhD

Math Imaging and Visual Computing (MIVIC) Lab, PEMaCS Division, Delaware State University

Abstract:

In this seminar, I will present our research efforts in the MIVIC lab on image analysis and machine learning. We will discuss mathematical and computational aspects of methods in these research fields, and their applications to remote sensing and environment monitoring. Specific topics are image registration, image segmentation, subspace learning and image recognition techniques. I will present principles of segmentation-registration cooperative techniques for matching multi-spectral and multi-temporal satellite imagery. Another topic is region-based change detection for mapping natural disasters such as floods, wildfires and tsunamis. We also apply such techniques to the biomedical domain, including biomedical/biological image analysis, computer aided detection/diagnosis and body composition assessment.
