About this Event
"Competing Magnetic Phases of Helically ordered Fe3Ga4"
Presented by Dr. MichelleJamer, Associate Professor, from the United States Naval Academy
There has been renewed interest in studying Fe3Ga4 due to its interesting magnetic competition. There are two magnetic ground states - one ferromagnetic (FM) and one helically ordered antiferromagnetic (AFM) which results in multiple magnetic transitions. The FM to AFM metamagnetic transition occurs at ~70 K, then an AFM to FM transition at ~370 K, both of which can be exploited through strain and doping. Interestingly, the helically ordered AFM phase allows for metallicity, which may lead to a pathway for applications. In this talk, the focus will be on the magnetoresistance, which shows interesting fluctuations at low fields.
