Delaware Summit on Civics Education
Civics education has been marginalized in recent years at a time when America is becoming dangerously polarized. Moreover, only 23% of students scored at or above proficiency on the latest NAEP assessment of civics, a national report card that also revealed a disturbing achievement gap.
The purpose of the summit is to explore ways to improve the quality and quantity of K-12 civic education with an eye toward enacting a high-quality action plan for the First State. Those attending will help inform that action plan.
Dr. Peter Levine is one of the nation’s most respected voices in civics education having served as Deputy Director of the National Commission on Civic Renewal. Peter is leading a national survey on civics education that he will share at the summit.
Educators, elected officials, policymakers, and others interested in improving the quality of civics education in Delaware are invited.
This event is free, but registration is required. Registration deadline is December 14, 2018.
