Misinformation, conspiracy theories, memes, and divisiveness. All describe the fast-paced and—at times—chaotic media world in this year’s presidential election. UD experts will take an in-depth look at key topics of the campaign, as well as aspects of election materials, candidate rhetoric, and imagery at Democracy in Focus: Media’s Role in the 2024 Election.

Hosted by the Center for Political Communication, and moderated by Danna Young, CPC director and professor of communication, panelists include:

  • Erin Cassese, professor in the Department of Political Science and International Relations, who will discuss the role of gender
  • Lindsay Hoffman, associate professor in the Department of Communication, who will examine the influence of digital technology on political discourse
  • Joanne Miller, professor in the Department of Political Science and International Relations, who will address the impact of conspiracy theories and misinformation
  • Tim Shaffer, Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Chair of Civil Discourse in the Biden School of Public Policy & Administration, who will explore issues of civility and incivility
