Curious about what it takes to be part of Delaware’s Derelict Crab Pot Round-Up team? Join us for an engaging and hands-on Volunteer Open House where you'll get an inside look at how YOU can help clean up our waterways and restore vital habitat in Delaware’s Inland Bays!

This drop-in style event is designed to get new and returning volunteers prepped and excited for performing independent clean-up efforts and/or the big Crab Pot Clean-Up Weekend happening September 23–24, 2025.

At the Open House, you’ll:

  • Learn how to identify and locate derelict crab pots using side-scan sonar
  • Get up close with the Mobile Mapping Units (MMUs) and see how they’re set up and used
  • Discover how data collection works—what’s in a pot, and how to record it
  • View photos and stories from past volunteer efforts
  • Ask questions and get pro tips from Delaware Sea Grant and University of Delaware experts

Whether you're new to the program or looking to sharpen your skills before heading out, this is your chance to connect with fellow volunteers, get trained, and be part of a community-driven solution to marine debris.

No boat required to attend. All are welcome!

Let us know you’re coming, please RSVP to Brittany Haywood at haywoobl@udel.edu.
