Econ BYO Dinner and a Movie: The Laundromat
Delaware's K-12 educators are invited to join us for a lecture and discussion of the movie The Laundromat, co-led by CEEE program coordinator Scott Bacon and Delaware Department of Justice Chief Special Investigator Craig Weldon*.
The Laundromat follows Ellen Martin (Meryl Streep) whose vacation takes a sudden turn as she begins investigating a fake insurance policy. She uncovers seductive shell companies and offshore accounts that help the rich and powerful prosper. Topics addressed are tax evasion, bribery and illicit business activity set up to support corrupt financial systems.
The post-viewing discussion will focus on scams, corruption, fraud investigations, and how to protect yourself against them.
For this Econ BYO Dinner and a Movie session, participants will independently watch the movie in its entirety before attending the webinar, enjoying a related online lecture, and participating in engaging and topical discussion. The movie can be accessed from multiple online platforms.
