Fall into the Garden- a morning of workshops

Join us for a morning of learning. Our program, designed for both novice and experienced gardeners, will feature a variety of topics, giveaways (including a rain barrel), and an opportunity to network with our expert Master Gardeners. UDairy Creamery ice cream will be served.
This fall’s program includes:

Fall Gardening and Beyond, with Master Gardener Rick Judd

Summer has passed. Take advantage of fall, a very productive gardening season. Learn the many vegetables that grow well and yield an abundant harvest in the cooler weather. Learn how to start, maintain, and obtain a maximum harvest from these vegetables. Then, put your garden to bed or…garden right through the winter! We will show you how.

Food Teaching Garden Tour and Garden Tool Maintenance Demo with Master Gardeners Sonia Jones and Frank Ebright

Following Rick’s presentation, we will visit the vegetable and fruit teaching garden. It is the perfect time to embrace the cool weather and plant a variety of vegetables that thrive in this season, plants like broccoli, collard greens, spinach, kale, lettuce, carrots, and beets. It is also time to start preparing your garden for winter, readying it for the cold months ahead. We will discuss cleaning up the garden, protecting and enriching your soil, and planting cover crops. This tour will focus on the steps you will need to take to ensure your garden is well-prepared for the following growing season.

We will also have a garden tool maintenance demonstration. It is important to clean and sharpen your garden tools before storing them away for the winter. We want to ensure your tools are in top condition for the next planting season.

Growing Vegetables during the Winter with Master Gardener Karen Luck

In this more advanced session learn how to grow and harvest fresh vegetables throughout the winter even when the temperature is below freezing. You will discover how using row covers, cold frames, and other coverings will enable you to enjoy greens and roots until spring arrives. We will also discuss watering, preventing disease, and managing pests.

Registration for the Fall into the Garden program is $20.

Important: No refunds will be issued unless the program is canceled. You will be notified in the event of cancellation.
