The Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Ithaca Initiative in collaboration with the School of Education, is excited to host a facilitated discussion of Closed for Democracy: How Mass School Closure Undermines the Citizenship of Black Americans by Sally Nuamah, exploring the declining presence of public schools in large cities and their impacts on Black citizens.

 

Prof. Sally A. Nuamah, Ph.D. is a tenured professor of Political Science, Human Development and Social Policy at Northwestern University. She is also the author of two solo-authored, 8x award-winning academic books, How Girls Achieve, and Closed for Democracy, published by Harvard and Cambridge University Press, respectively. In addition, she has published a dozen peer-reviewed articles in top academic journals and received nearly 40 prestigious awards from organizations such as the American Political Science Association, Forbes Magazine, and the Carnegie Corporation.
