DESCRIPTION:The Mid-Atlantic Region Association for Asian Studies (MAR/AAS)
  will hold their annual conference at the University of Delaware in Clayto
 n Hall on November 2-3\, 2024. The MAR/AAS conference provides an excellen
 t opportunity for students to learn\, network\, and be inspired. \n\n \n\n
 Interdisciplinary approaches create new knowledge by breaking boundaries a
 nd barriers and providing new lenses for critical inquiries. As a research
  area\, Asian Studies has been interdisciplinary and cross-border from the
  beginning. This year\, researchers with various academic backgrounds will
  share their thoughts on the challenges and opportunities interdisciplinar
 ity brings to Asian Studies.\n\n \n\nThe MAR/ASS conference will hold thre
 e panel sessions on Saturday\, November 2nd\, and a Pop Culture and Teachi
 ng About Asia Forum for K-12 Educators co-organized by Dr. Shuhan C. Wang.
  On Sunday\, November 3rd\, after two panel sessions\, the conference will
  conclude with the Complimentary Brunch and the Annual Presidential Roundt
 able featuring the keynote speech “Time\, Religion\, and Civilization: M
 issionary Almanacs in Southern China in the Early Nineteenth Century” gi
 ven by Dr. Yuanchong Wang from the University of Delaware.\n\n \n\nThe Ann
 ual Business Luncheon will spotlight AAS Vice President Dr. Nancy Peluso o
 f the University of California\, Berkley\, in a keynote speech\, after the
  featured speech\, “Looking for China” by Bill Einreinhofer\, producer
 \, director\, educator\, and writer who created Emmy Award-winning nonfict
 ion video content. At the Dinner Banquet on Saturday night\, the 2024 Dist
 inguished Asianist Award will be presented to Dr. Kathleen (Kathy) Uno\, r
 etired Temple University professor of modern Japanese history.\n\n \n\nThe
  conference has been made possible in part by Delaware Humanities and the 
 National Endowment for the Humanities: Democracy Demands Wisdom. Co-sponso
 rs at the University of Delaware include the Asian Studies Program\, Offic
 e of the Provost\, College of Arts & Sciences\, Center for Global and Area
  Studies (CGAS)\, and Department of Languages\, Literatures & Cultures. Ad
 ditional sponsors include the Association for Asian Studies\, Greater Phil
 adelphia Asian Studies Consortium (GPASC)\, and National Consortium for Te
 aching About Asia (NCTA) at the University of Pittsburgh.
