International Student Wellness Discussion: Making Friends and Navigating American Culture
Having a support network, engaging in meaningful relationships, and feeling connected to your community are crucial components to social wellness. Building that network, making friends, and finding your place in the community is challenging for all new students but can be particularly challenging for international students. This week we will explore how to meet people and make connections at UD. We will also discuss some of the nuances of American culture that can be difficult to understand and can even interfere in our social wellness.
Being a student can be stressful. Being an international student can have unique challenges that can affect your wellbeing. We want to remind you that you don’t have to take on all of these challenges alone. One of the best ways to improve your wellbeing is to use the resources available to you and to connect with others in your community who can share how they deal with and ultimately overcome the unique challenges that might negatively impact their wellbeing. Led by Student Wellness and Health Promotion and the Center for Global Programs and Services, we will talk about some of these topics in this International Student Discussion Series. Each week will build upon the previous week’s topic and culminate in a holiday party at the end of the semester.
