Lunchtime Learning: Dental Care and Disability
Why aren’t many Delawareans with disabilities getting the care they need, and what can we do about it?
Good dental care is essential for the health of the whole body. But 41% of Delawareans with disabilities in a recent study said they hadn’t visited the dentist in at least a year.
Why not?
Join us as Jae Chul Lee, director of the CDS Health and Wellness unit, reveals preliminary findings from the research he’s been doing to answer that question. He will also illuminate compelling stories emerging from the surveys of dentists and people with disabilities he conducted last year. Nicholas Conte, the state dental director, will discuss how those findings could help improve access to dental care for people with disabilities.
This project is funded by the Delaware Division of Public Health Bureau of Oral Health and Dental Services, with support from the U.S. Health Resources & Services Administration Grant No. T12HP28874.
