DESCRIPTION:Celebrating Arvo Pärt’s 90th Birthday Across the Arts\n\n\n
“Of Sound and Silence…” is a truly interdisciplinary program that in
 cludes music\, visual art\, poetry\, projections\, theoretical analysis of
Summa\, and a demonstration of the Tintinnabuli style. It brings together
both faculty and students from across the School of the Arts.\n\n \n\nArv
o Pärt is an Estonian composer\, born in 1935\, widely regarded as one of
the most influential living composers of contemporary classical music. Af
ter early experimentation with modernist styles\, he developed his distinc
tive tintinnabuli technique in the 1970s—a minimalist approach inspired
by the sound of ringing bells and rooted in spiritual simplicity.\n\n \n\n
His music is often associated with sacred themes and deep introspection\,
reflecting his engagement with religious texts and Orthodox Christianity.
Some of his most well-known works include Spiegel im Spiegel\, Fratres\, a
nd Tabula Rasa. Pärt’s compositions are celebrated for their clarity\,
emotional depth\, and timeless quality\, earning him international acclaim
and a lasting impact on both classical and contemporary music.
