Members of the Penn State Faculty Woodwind Trio present an evening of chamber music for woodwinds.
ABOUT THE PERFORMERS
Naomi Seidman is recognized as an accomplished solo performer, chamber musician, and educator. A faculty member at Pennsylvania State University’s School of Music, she has participated in numerous festivals and has presented master classes around the country, appeared as soloist with orchestras; and is actively involved with the National Flute Association. She is a graduate of the University of California at Santa Barbara, the University of Texas at Austin and Yale.
Andreas Oeste is an active performer, chamber musician, and educator who currently serves as Assistant Professor of Oboe at Pennsylvania State University. In addition, he is Principal Oboe of the Harrisburg Symphony, oboist of the Pennsylvania Quintet, and Chair of the Gillet-Fox International Oboe Competition with the International Double Reed Society. Andreas appears regularly as an orchestral performer, having held positions with the Lexington Philharmonic, Battle Creek Symphony, Arkansas Symphony, and Symphony of Northwest Arkansas among others. A frequent chamber musician, Andreas has performed across the United States and Europe as part of Market Square Concerts, the Pennsylvania Quintet, the Wingra Wind Quintet, AEPEX Contemporary Ensemble, and the Thy Festival in Denmark. He is featured often as an orchestral soloist, performing with orchestras including the Pennsylvania Chamber Orchestra, Hershey Symphony, Penns Woods Festival Orchestra, TACTUS Chamber Orchestra, Harrisburg Symphony, and more. Andreas holds prizes from several prominent international competitions, most notably from the Hugo-Fox Gillet Competition and the Barbirolli International Oboe Competition. His recent album, Jurriaan Andriessen: Music for Oboe & Winds features a variety of solo and chamber works featuring the oboe, many of which had never been performed until this recording. He received his Doctorate of Musical Arts and Masters of Music in Oboe Performance and Chamber Music degrees from the University of Michigan, and Bachelors degrees in Oboe Performance and Music Composition from the University of Central Arkansas.
Described as a “poet with titanium fingers” by the Vancouver Sun, Dr. Melody Quah has performed extensively on the stages of her native Malaysia as well as across Asia, Europe, Australia, and North America. Quah’s music career encompasses a wide range of activities—soloist, recitalist, collaborative pianist, chamber musician, educator, adjudicator, masterclass clinician, and music director. A prizewinner of the 7th International Paderewski Competition held in Bydgoszcz, Poland, she has appeared in recital at Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall, and as chamber musician at the Kennedy Center’s Terrace Theatre. Quah has appeared as soloist with numerous orchestras worldwide, including the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, Vancouver Symphony, Pomeranian Philharmonic in Poland, and various Australian and American ensembles. She has premiered over two dozen works by living composers and commissioned pieces from artists across Southeast Asia, with recordings currently in production. Additionally, she has recorded music by Tom DeLio and Baljinder Sekhon, released on Neuma Records and the Blue Griffin label. Quah currently serves as Assistant Professor of Piano at Penn State University. She recently served as faculty at the Euro Arts Festival (Poland) Nanyang International Piano Academy festival (Singapore). Quah holds degrees from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, Yale School of Music, The Juilliard School and Vancouver Academy of Music. She is a Yamaha Artist.
