Racial Literacy across our Education Programs

This is a past event

Wondering what the School of Education faculty and staff are working on? Join us for our Spring 2019 brown bag discussion with SOE faculty members Rosalie Rolón-Dow and Elizabeth Soslau who will share what they learned after attending a week-long Racial Empowerment Institute at the University of Pennsylvania. The training was lead by, and built around, Howard Stevenson's recent book, Promoting Racial Literacy in Schools: Differences That Make a Difference

Rosalie and Elizabeth will share how they are applying this framework for responding to everyday racially stressful encounters and how they extend it to include attention to content and curricular issues in their classes. They will discuss implications for using this framework across educational spaces with participants.
