Rein Jelle Terpstra, a visual artist based in Amsterdam, will present on a photographical reconstruction of the Robert F. Kennedy funeral train that passed through Newark en route to Washington in June 1968.. This project involves a range of in-depth fieldwork methods, including the collection of snapshots, home-movie footage, and narrative interviews. With research and representational methods spanning many disciplines, the project takes the Kennedy memorial as a case for probing collective memory and the role of vernacular photographic imagery in society and history.

Terpstra's work is held in various collections, including SFMOMA (San Francisco), MoMA Library (New York), EYE Film Museum (Amsterdam), Nederlands Fotomuseum (Rotterdam), The Royal Museum of Arts (Brussels), Yale University Library (New Haven), and the Getty Research Institute (Los Angeles).  He undertook a Smithsonian Artist Research Fellowship in Washington in 2017 to work on the The RFK Funeral Train - The People's View, his latest book.
