Join the College of Arts & Sciences for a Saturday Symposium program exploring various aspects of the UD REP's production IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT by Matt Pelfrey; based on the novel by John Ball that also inspired the 1967 famous Oscar-winning film, starring Sidney Poitier.

We’ll begin at 9:00am with talks by UD faculty, followed by lunch and discussion. The symposium culminates with the matinee performance and a post-show discussion.

Registration closes Thursday November 16.

About the production, from the REP's website:

August 1962 — a white man is discovered dead in a small town of Alabama. Local police arrest the only stranger in town, a black man named Virgil Tibbs. Little do they know, their suspect is a detective from California.  Left with no witnesses, no motives, and no clues, Detective Tibbs becomes this racially-tense community’s only hope of solving the brutal murder. Adapted for the stage from the book that inspired the Oscar-winning film.

Our speakers for the morning lectures are:

Edward Johanningsmeier, Department of History

John Jebb, Department of English

Earl Smith, Department of Women and Gender Studies

Chisa Hutchinson, Department of English

Steve Tague, Department of Theatre
