Social Justice Coffee Hour:
Talking to Kids about Racism
GENERAL PURPOSE OF SOCIAL JUSTICE COFFEE HOUR
To allow students, staff, faculty members, and community members space and time to collectively learn about and meaningfully engage with social issues. The social justice coffee hour will occur ~2 times per semester.
INFORMATION SPECIFIC TO THIS COFFEE HOUR
Part 1: 2:30-3:15pm: Speakers giving informal 10-15 minute talks.
Part 2: 3:15-3:30pm: Question and Answer Session
Part 3: 3:30-4:15pm: Small group discussions and a call to action.
Come to as many parts as you can - you can leave early or arrive late as needed! The topic of this coffee hour is "Talking to Kids about Racism". Coffee and light refreshments will be served.
Scientist: Dr. Angel Dunbar is a scientist at the University of Maryland whose research focuses on understanding the unique developmental challenges that children of color encounter and the family processes and individual factors that influence positive adaptation in the face of these challenges.
