Are you feeling unprepared or anxious in your role for a course that has transitioned online?

Is communicating with students, and the instructor you assist, raising questions about personal boundaries, including when and how you should be available via email/Zoom?

Are you concerned that online teaching will erode any work/life balance you have created prior to this transition, as many of us now have to contend with realities of working from home?

If so, then join me and fellow graduate TAs who have been asking themselves similar questions for a series of TA Re-Orientation Sessions beginning Thursday, April 9.

Each of these weekly sessions will follow a similar format and will run once in the morning (9:00 a.m.) and once in the afternoon (3:00 p.m.) to accommodate your schedules. Prior to a short presentation on strategies and best practices to address the day's topic, my co-hosts and I will conduct polls and field individual responses to open-ended check-in questions. The majority of the session will then be left open for a question-and-answer period in which we can engage in a conversation about how to best employ strategies presented in the session, as well as address concerns you may have that cannot be easily expressed to your advisors or departments. You are encouraged to attend and participate to your comfort level, whether that means asking a question via webcam, private message, or simply listening in.

  • Session 1 (4/9): Shifting Classroom, Same Dynamics: Re-Building Instructional Confidence
  • Session 2 (4/16): Communicating and Re-Negotiating Boundaries
  • Session 3 (4/23): Working During a Global Pandemic: Time Management Strategies
