With the current political climate, it can be frightening to navigate or step into career fields that are predominantly caucasian or male. Especially as college students who are independently exploring the world, economy, and politics for the first time. Being an African-American woman navigating these fields is challenging because history and society have stereotyped us to be incompetent or useless. As a result, there are many instances where African-American women have to fight ten times harder to get something that other individuals may not have to fight for at all. Especially with a government that is actively trying to undo the work that has been done in the past by various minority-based organizations and communities.

 

The purpose of this event is to highlight the work done by African-American women during African-American Women's History Month, and uplift minority Undergraduate Students in a time where it is easy to become discouraged by those who are supposed to lead us. By obtaining the personal experiences of various African-American sorors in different working fields (Hollywood, STEM, Education, Law), the Chi Theta chapter believes we can uplift those in our community. Especially if we bring in sorors from fields in which various minority students are obtaining degrees. It makes the stories and advice relatable and more likely to be understood and heard by Undergraduate Students.
