Graduate programs are invited to submit names and dossiers of nominees for the first-year University Graduate Scholars Award to the Graduate College. Students may not self-nominate. 

  

Nominees for this award may be students newly admitted for the 2024-25 academic year or currently enrolled students. All nominees must be US citizens or permanent residents or approved for DACA status. Awards are competitive and are based on academic achievement, as well as: 

  

  • Membership in racial/ethnic groups historically underrepresented in your discipline (e.g., African American, Asian American, Latina/o/x, Hispanic American, Native American/Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander) 

  • Documented disability or chronic medical conditions  

  • Evidence of financial need; e.g., current or former Pell Grant eligibility, participation in federal TRIO programs, or participation in other programs that are for students who can document low-income status 

  • First-generation college student (e.g., one whose parent(s) have a high school diploma as their highest level of education) 

  • Unexpected extenuating personal circumstances/hardships that impacted the student’s ability to dedicate complete attention to their academics for one or more terms 

 

  

Early nomination deadline for new awards:  January 23, 2024, at noon. 

Decisions are to be announced by February 19, 2024. Up to half of available offers will be made based on these nominations. 

  

Final nomination deadline for new awards and renewals:  February 23, 2024, at noon. 

Decisions to be announced by March 22, 2024. Nominees not selected in early nomination period will be considered again.
