https://library.udel.edu/events/events/?id=503It’s widely believed that the accounting and reporting of economic transactions are objective and mechanical endeavors, but are they?
In Professor Jennifer R. Joe’s research and experiments, she has found the realities of corporate financial reporting don’t mirror that common belief. Join Joe to explore how the context surrounding financial information and the professional’s cognitive processing can result in biased judgments that have significant economic impact.
Jennifer R. Joe is the Whitney Family Professor of Accounting and the Cohen Family Lerner Director of Diversity at the University of Delaware. She draws on her professional experience as an auditor and certified public accountant to examine how key institutional factors impact the quality of corporate financial reporting and the role of cognition in decisions using accounting information. Joe was named the American Accounting Association’s (AAA) 2021 Presidential Scholar, and has received three AAA Best Paper Awards during 2021-2022.
