Walking Tour Through Newark History - New London Avenue
Graduate Diversity Programming presents "Walking Tour Through Newark History - New London Avenue"
Jim Jones will lead a one-hour walking tour in two of Newark’s most celebrated historic districts, New London Avenue (the original name of New London Road) and “Quality Hill” (W. Main Street). Find out how the area developed from an 18th century wagon stop, to a 19th century industrial zone, and finally to a 20th century commercial and residential neighborhood. Hear about the people who made it happen, including Bernard Saunders, George M. Wilson, Armstrong, Rathmell Wilson, James Ray and more. Additionally, find out why Newark has a street called “Cleveland.” (RSVP here)
Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 9:00am to 10:30am
Location information will be sent upon registration.
