Led by nationally recognized experts in orthopaedics, neuroscience, and sports rehabilitation, the agenda moves from surgical and historical perspectives on knee care to modern neuroplasticity-informed rehabilitation, anatomy and tissue-specific decision making, and evidence-based use of adjunct modalities (e.g. blood flow restriction, NMES, shockwave, laser). This course progresses from foundational tissue-specific decision making to objective and psychological readiness testing, late-stage strength development, strength and conditioning principles, on-field athletic training assessment and return-to-sport progressions, and dedicated discussion of sports nutrition as it relates to tissue health and performance. Rotating lab blocks emphasize hands-on application and collaborative problem-solving, reinforcing a multidisciplinary model that places the patient at the center of clinical reasoning and performance planning—including considerations for the master athlete with knee osteoarthritis seeking to maintain or return to higher-level activity.

This full-day continuing education course prepares physical therapists, athletic trainers, and sports medicine providers to manage knee conditions across the entire rehabilitation and performance continuum using an evidence-informed, patient-centered approach. Guided by internationally recognized faculty—including Dr. Don Shelbourne (world renown surgeon), Dr. Dustin Grooms (Ohio University Professor of Clinical Neuroscience & Orthopaedics in Physical Therapy), Dr. Amy Arundale (Washington Wizards Director of Movement Science and Innovation), Dr. Lynn Snyder-Mackler (Professor Emerita of Physical Therapy University of Delaware) and Dr. Airelle Giordano (AASPT President; University of Delaware Director Clinic Services, Residency & Fellowship Training)— the agenda moves from surgical and historical perspectives on knee care to modern neuroplasticity-informed rehabilitation, anatomy and tissue-specific decision making, and evidence-based use of adjunct modalities (e.g. blood flow restriction, NMES, shockwave, laser).

Through lectures, panel discussions, and hands-on laboratory experiences, participants will develop advanced clinical reasoning skills to evaluate, design, and modify rehabilitation programs for individuals with knee pathology across diverse populations, ranging from postoperative athletes to older adults with knee osteoarthritis seeking to maintain or return to higher levels of activity.
