Jeffrey Scott Hornoff joined the Warwick, Rhode Island Police Department in 1983 and ultimately became a detective. Following a wrongful conviction and imprisonment, he was exonerated and released in 2002. Since then, Scott has become a national advocate for wrongful-conviction awareness, judicial reform, and exoneree rights.

Scott has lectured at colleges, universities, law schools, professional conferences, and organizations across the country and internationally, including Innocence Project London and Innocence Project Delaware. He has also testified before legislative committees on wrongful-conviction reform and exoneree compensation legislation and has worked with several innocence and advocacy organizations.

Following his exoneration, Scott earned a graduate degree in Criminal Justice from Boston University and later worked overseas providing police training, close protection, and diplomatic security in Afghanistan. He recently completed his memoir and is now exploring the creation of children's books.

Wrongful Conviction Day provides an important opportunity to raise awareness about the causes and impacts of wrongful convictions, honor those affected, and consider the reforms needed to strengthen our justice system.
